A rare view of Oaxaca

I wanted to take a moment today to steep in a little bit of indulgent nostalgia about a place I love so dearly – Oaxaca.

But today, I don’t want to discuss the colonial architecture nor the cobblestone streets. Not the abundant markets or the seven kinds of mole or even smokey mezcal chased with chili-salt on orange slices.

I want to gaze at images of tiled bathroom floors and let the memories come swirling back.

Oaxaca has seriously artful flooring. And sometimes a little solo moment in the bathroom (or perhaps one shared with a friend) offers the perfect opportunity to sit back (sometimes literally) and admire the beauty that is all around. Art found in even the most mundane aspects of life. I suppose this is true everywhere. But perhaps it is a little harder to miss when it stares up at you from the bathroom floor.
