October is Fair Trade month, and while we like to celebrate fair trade everyday in our own small ways, it is a great opportunity to get some buzz around the movement.
What does “Fair Trade” truly mean?
To us, fair trade means doing doing business in a way that cares for the earth and it’s inhabitants. It’s a set of principles that serve a guide to insuring that farmers and artisans are being treated well and paid fairly by their business partners in the developing world. Beyond paying a certain wage to the weavers who are the backbone of MZ, we strive to create lasting sustainable relationships and continued work for the amazing community of Teotitlan del Valle, Oaxaca Mexico.
To us, fair trade is about integrity, which is one of our core values. As long as we stay true to this, we are helping to improve the lives and communities of the artisans, one weaving at a time.
What does “Fair Trade” mean to you?
Perhaps it means poverty alleviation or environmental conservation. Women’s empowerment and children’s education.
It could mean supporting the movement with your dollar, by choosing to buy fair trade coffee or bananas at the grocery store. Maybe selecting fair trade gifts and flowers for your sweetie next time. Or posting about fair trade on Facebook or Twitter.
Whatever it means to you, share it with someone else! Help spread the word about the power of small businesses and conscious consumers in making the world a better place.
