Here at MZ, we wanted to take the opportunity to reflect on the abundance in our lives and take a moment, or a month, to focus on gratitude. Throughout November we will be offering thanks for the multitude of blessings that are bestowed on the many lives in our community. We will hear from some MZ employees, including our Oaxacan counterparts, as well as some other voices from our crowd.
I wanted to start out by giving thanks for my work that allows me the flexibility to move between two countries, and two cultures. I have always been passionate about traveling, felt most alive when moving through space, accumulating memories at a rapid pace, meeting new people and continuously learning. Whether the focus was a language, a new culture, or myself, the lessons learned through my travels have always offered me the most growth.
In the past, I have spent some time in the states every year working to afford long trips abroad, and this disjointed me a bit. The discrepancy between times of work and times of play left me seeking more of a balance. I am so happy to have found work that allows me to share my time between my home in Oregon, and my newfound home in Oaxaca.
I feel that being able to be an intermediary between these cultures, both personally, and through my work with Manos Zapotecas, feels important and impactful, and that offers me a tremendous sense of pride. I am so grateful to those who have helped me along the path that led me here and to the universe that lets me exist in it in a way that feels purposeful and true.
